Our Green Shipping Practices: Plastic-Free and Planet-Friendly

If you’ve ever wondered, “What shipping materials does Strawesome use? I hope my glass straws don’t arrive wrapped in plastic!” — you’re not alone. Many of our customers care deeply about eco-friendly shipping, and so do we.

Our Journey to Green Shipping

When Strawesome began in 2009, green packaging options weren’t easy to find. So, we got creative:

  • In the early days, we collected leftover packing materials from local businesses before they hit the trash. Even though it sometimes meant using bubble wrap or packing peanuts, at least we were reusing materials instead of buying new plastic.
  • Over time, paper-based alternatives became available — recyclable, affordable, and more effective. This was a game-changer and allowed us to phase out new plastic completely.

By the end of 2013, we were fulfilling 99% of orders with 99% plastic-free, recyclable, or recycled shipping materials. Today, that number is 100%.

What’s Inside Your Strawesome Shipment

Every order is carefully packed using:

  • A paper packing slip
  • A Strawesome flyer (business card size)
  • Glass straws and accessories wrapped in Geami (paper-based wrap)
  • A corrugated cardboard shipping box
  • A paper “fragile” sticker and postage label
  • Paper or rubber-based packing tape

The result: everything in your box is recyclable, compostable, or made with recycled paper.

Why You Might Still See Plastic

For about 1% of our larger shipments, you may receive plastic packing material. If you do, it’s always reused — repurposed from packaging we’ve received from other companies. Rather than sending it straight to the landfill, we use it one more time.

Why It Matters

Sustainable shipping protects your glass straws and our planet. By using plastic-free, recyclable materials, we keep waste out of landfills and reduce demand for new plastics. It’s one more way Strawesome helps you make eco-friendly choices every day.
