One great way to save money and reduce the impact on trash and recycling programs is to reuse.  Instead of purchasing new containers for storage or on-the-go drinks look around to see what you can reuse!  Below are photos of some of my favorites:

Here I’ve used two spaghetti sauce jars, one juice jar and a pickle jar.  They are so very useful that it’s too hard to see them leave.  Peel off the labels and clean them well (use some vinegar and baking soda on the pickle jars or else everything will smell like pickles).  Why buy a special to-go cup for your smoothie? The lids on these jars are perfectly sealed and ready for on the go healthy drinks – with your favorite Strawesome straw of course!

Maybe you don’t buy any of these products that come in jars but I bet you know someone who does and instead of those pretty glass jars being tossed ask if you can have them.

Do you buy products in bulk? If not, you should! You save a TON of money, reduce waste and can store everything nice and neat in these jars – labeled of course! (These really did come out of my pantry)

I frequently use these jars to tote around smoothies for my family. Today I made the recipe below and brought it to carpool for my oldest son to drink on the drive home. He was very happy to have it!

Avocado Smoothie (makes approximately 4 cups)

1-1/2 cups milk of your choice (we use whole raw cow’s milk)
1/2 cup of yogurt of your choice (we use grass-fed whole milk banana/mango flavor)
1 whole ripe banana
1 whole ripe avocado
1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
Handful fresh kale leaves (optional)

Blend all ingredients together until smooth.  Omit kale if you are not using a high-power blender.  Otherwise you may end up with chunks of kale that will turn everyone off.
