Recipe Tuesday – Hot Chocolate Fake-Out

My friends over at Mum’s Original sent me this recipe and I had to laugh at the fake-out I pulled off with it. I think you will too..

My oldest son (6.5 years old) was begging for hot cocoa all afternoon today.  I told him that he could have some, I was actually proud of him for turning down the choice to have some at a friend’s house today because he knew it contained ingredients that wouldn’t make him feel good.  Our version isn’t perfect but it’s made with raw cow’s milk and fair trade cocoa mix then topped with real marshmallows.

After dinner I started making the recipe listed below for myself and poured it into a mug just like I would his hot cocoa. (I heated my water to medium-hot instead of just warm)  While cleaning up my blender I hear my son say “Mmm, this must be my hot cocoa” and then he takes a sip and walks away with it and drinks it (after I add marshmallows), all the while proclaiming it’s deliciousness. Wow, score one for mom!

  1. I love a good cup of hot chocolate. The BEST (I think) is by Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. They are based here in California but also vaailable online. Order the non-fat sugar free … trust me you will be in heaven. Warm your milk first, then add the chocolate and whisk. It is delightful; you’ll be hooked.

  2. my favorite right now is amhemode hot chocolate mix made with milk (and sometimes a little peppermint schnapps). I don’t have the perfect recipe for coco mix just yet, I’m still exploring, my MIL has a good one that I hope to get at Christmas.
