If you are a member of the Strawesome community, I’m guessing you might love drinking a delicious smoothie now and again, especially through a reusable glass drinking straw. (Maybe even daily like me?!?)
I’m taste-testing spring smoothie recipes this week for our upcoming 14-Day Spring Cleanse for women and wanted to share it with you here as a guest blogger because I know it’s a smoothie-drinking crowd at Strawesome.
This smoothie is a bit lighter than those winter smoothies in my REAL Winter eBook that we shared here a few months ago, which is why it’s perfect to help you ease into Spring. If you tune into your body you’ll start to notice that lightening up your diet is just what your body wants right now since we are very connected to the seasonal cycles and rhythms. Those richer, warmer, heavier foods of winter start to feel a little too rich, warm and heavy right about now. If you’re not noticing that, it may mean you are a bit out of balance and rhythm and actually switching over to lighter, fresher foods will help get your body back into a more natural rhythm that will support your energy, ideal weight, hormones and more.
Spring is also a great time to shed that extra layer of ‘winter weight’ that we often put on. A great way to ease into losing those few pounds is by beginning the day with a smoothie made with REAL food ingredients you would actually be able to find in a garden or on a farm. A smoothie that is balanced with what I call Powerful Protein, Friendly Fat and Colorful Carbs.
I’ve seen it with thousands of clients over the last 12 years through my health coaching practice and programs. A delicious balanced smoothie can keep you nourished all morning and put you into a high energy fat-burning mode between meals. Who doesn’t love that?! Plus because we are all different metabolically, I love that smoothies are easy to tweak if you need more or less Powerful Protein, Friendly Fat or Colorful Carbs.

Raspberry Almond Smoothie
1 Cup water or coconut water
1 Tbsp. chia seeds (Friendly Fat)
1 Cup frozen raspberries (Colorful Carbs)
1 banana (Colorful Carbs) or 1 avocado (Friendly Fat) + 1 Tbsp. raw honey
½ – 1 Cup spinach, packed (Colorful Carbs)
3 Tbsp. raw almond butter or almonds (Friendly Fat, Powerful Protein)
2 tsp. lemon juice
Optional nutritional BOOSTS that I love: grass-fed collagen, melted coconut oil, a high quality protein powder, raw cacoa, a little raw honey, 1/8 tsp. unrefined sea salt
Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender. Thin with a little more liquid if needed. Blend in ice if you’d prefer the smoothie to be colder. If you are making your smoothie ahead of time, stir in those omega-3 rich chia seeds just before drinking otherwise you may end up with chia pudding instead of a smoothie.
You can also try substituting the water with canned light coconut milk. I suggest switching to light in the spring and summer and using full-fat in the fall and winter. Look for a brand like Native Forest that has no BPA in the lining of the can.
