Long Live The Vaquita

Introducing the Vaquita Glass Straw

As you may well know there are so many perks to switching from plastic disposable straws to re-usable glass ones. They’re eco-friendly, you’re keeping waste out of landfills, they are toxin-free and oh so cute to name just a few benefits. But what if there was an even better reason to enjoy our one-of-a-kind glass straws? From time to time we like the support a cause or two, you know, to make the earth a better place for us and our kids. Our newest worthy endeavor is to help save the vaquita and you can help. All you must do is buy a straw.

We have a wonderfully crafted glass straw with an adorable little vaquita decorating the side. What is a vaquita (it’s OK we weren’t sure at first, either)? A vaquita is a very rare species of porpoise found only in the waters of the northern portion of the Gulf of California. This shy little creature is hard to spot and tends to stay away from humans but because of human carelessness, this rare mammal is on the brink of extinction with only thirty vaquita left.

Thankfully, the vaquita has some fearless protectors in the form of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The SSCS has taken up residence, partnering with the Mexican government, in the northern Gulf of California and vowed to observe, record and protect the vaquita from harm—especially harm from illegal fishing practices and poachers.

What can you do to help the vaquita? Just buy a straw! That’s right, for every purchase of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society—Vaquita Straw, we will donate $7 toward the SSCS mission to save this extremely endangered mammal from facing extinction. It’s that simple. You get to enjoy a super cool straw with an adorable little vaquita on it while helping protect this marine mammal.
