I’m Not Perfect and I Love It
There’s some thinking out there that perfection is best and it’s ironic because no one is perfect. In fact, none of us are exactly alike, even twins have differences. And being different is actually what gives value to each person. The same might be said for products – there are some products that have to be made perfectly to match the next in order to work properly or be reliable for some outcome (like cars or power tools). But in the world of art, however, the opposite seems more appropriate. Each piece of art becomes a unique creation, unlike any other. This is what makes art, art. It’s creative and not always predictable.
I was looking at a product I purchased the other day and I realized that it isn’t absolutely perfect or consistent with the similar one sitting next to it. This made me love it even more. When I spend my money on products made by real people, I expect the inconsistent nature of the product as what adds to its value. I now own the only one like it. I approach my food the same way. I’ll gladly buy produce at the farmers market, knowing it is made in a way that is healthier and by someone that I know put love into growing it. Just because it’s not a perfectly ideal looking product, doesn’t take away from it’s own beauty.
At Strawesome, there’s a duality at work here between striving for perfection while being imperfect. While I do a great job to make our straws consistently functional as straws; the bending, decorating, colors, and textures can contain slight variations. This is the artsy side of creating a unique functional product that only you get to own and enjoy. I hope this gives you some insight into why I love what I do and strengthens your embrace of these perfect imperfections even more!

I absolutely LOVE my straws from Strawsome! Thanks for making a perfect product (imperfections and all!)
Well said. I love how we are all unique and special! Your straws are awesome! I use them every day. Thank you!
My mother and I collected blown glass pieces for years every time we went to VA to visit relatives. The shop is long gone having burnt down in a fire but remembering the times we had selecting the most unique pieces is still very much a strong memory. The best part was finding one that was different. We love your straws as the uniqueness takes us back in time. Thanks!
I wouldn’t know which straw to pick – they are all creative and fun!
My Strawesome straws are one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. We use them every morning for breakfast smoothies, and my purse has my favorite bent straw in a travel case for use in restaurants. We love them so much!
Thank you for these thoughts and for creating your “perfect imperfections”! They are wonderful!
Very well said! We love our Strawsome straws and use them almost daily for breakfast!
Art is always unique. We love our strawsome straws.
I love how beautifully handmade your straws are. In fact I plan to give my coworkers your straws for this Christmas as I feel like this is sharing a piece of me with them as I love your straws so much.
I agree with your words so much! That reminds me of a time when i was in a housewares store because i wanted to buy a new plate. All the plates looked the same except one which had a little tiny flaw in the painting on it. Immediately i decided to buy this one. That’s what makes things so special and unique, i love it! Thank you for this amazing post
My very first Strawesome straws came this week. I bought some “seconds” and I love them!
How boring life would be if everything were perfectly the same.
I’ve been contemplating getting a couple of glass straws but couldn’t make up my mind on which ones to get!! I like the idea of having a unique and different design. When we lived in Italy I saw first-hand how glass was made, I’m always drawn to the special pieces.
Real wisdom, and applicable to all areas of life. Thanks for the reminder that imperfection is not a bad thing!
I strive for perfection sometimes so hard that things just crumble in my hands. As a Christian, the Bible commands us to be perfect like Christ is perfect. But, we think perfect means flawless and without blemish. But, it actually means complete. If we are complete, we may have flaws, but that is our makeup. And, God knew that when He allowed it to be in His word.
So, redefining my personal definition of perfect to mean COMPLETE allows me the freedom and the ease of a mess up every now and then, so that I can learn the lesson and move on without kicking and beating myself down.
I love your straws BECAUSE they are not perfect mass market productions. I know that each one has been lovingly and carefully crafted. 🙂

We are slowly but surely eliminating all things plastic from as much of our lifestyle as possible. We’re already healthy eaters, so it’s time to change what we eat/drink from, as well.
We live less than an hour from Milford, and are wondering, could we come out there to make our purchases from you?
Thanks!
