Help Us Save the Whales

Daedra has designed a glass straw with a whale on it to support Save the Whales, a non-profit based in California doing good around the world! This straw is special because it reminds our family of an experience we shared a few years ago.

Living in Michigan, we are not guaranteed to ever come in contact with whales in the wild, but we were fortunate to spend a week in Cape Cod a few summers ago and do some whale watching in the Atlantic Ocean. I highly recommend it!

Strawesome Family Ready to go Whale Watching

That’s Daedra and the boys (I’m of course taking the photo) before we left the dock. The main photo up above of a whale diving (I think it was a humpback) is the only photo that I timed right.

It was thrilling just to be out on the ocean, miles from shore, and be among the wind and the silence and the peace. And then all-of-a-sudden, these large animals (usually a mother with baby) would be right there in front of us. We saw five sets of whales coming up for air, waving hello, and then diving back down. They were probably just as curious of us as we were of them.  What a special moment with nature!

This family memory has us appreciate the Save the Whales organization for the mission they are on. Join us in support of saving the whales. $7 from the sale of each Save the Whales straw will go to the Save the Whales organization to do just that!

  2. We just got back from Hawaii and the whales were everywhere. It was so awesome to see! I now carry glass straws in my purse so we can avoid using plastic while out and about. I want whales to be around when my kids grow up!

  5. I once visited my uncle in California and he took us on his boat. When we got into the ocean, we saw a huge object that turned out to be a dead whale! It was a memorable experience, but one I hope doesn’t get repeated. Save the whales!

  6. I’d have a whale of a time using one of these beautiful straws.?

I often ask at restaurants for no straw but they still bring me one. Or at fast food places I just don’t take one. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom all I drinks are served without a straw or lid to prevent waste ending up in the animals habit, but that should happen everywhere.

Small changes = big differences ?

    • That SHOULD happen everywhere, many animal exhibit locations bans straws. We just learned that Shedd Aquarium in Chicago has to ban them because so many people throw them on the ground and they end up in all the animal exhibits! so sad! 🙁
