Glass vs. Plastic
We talk a lot about the benefits of using glass instead of plastic straws. There are the blaringly obvious reasons, such as reducing waste and limiting your exposure to toxins, but then there are the subtle benefits one discovers when using glass in place of plastic.
Customers frequently ask if it’s required to use a smoothie width straw in order to drink thicker liquids. My answer is pretty simple, not only is it a great option to have the wider smoothie straw made of glass, but it’s also great to have the stability of a straw that’s got a thick glass wall. Anyone who has ever attempted to suck a thick smoothie through a regular width plastic straw knows that those plastic walls cave in on themselves when you suck really hard. With glass, whether it’s a smoothie width or regular width straw, the walls are incredibly stable and will never collapse on the opening of the straw. Glass straws make it easy to suck, but in a good way!
When trying to decide between a regular width straw and a smoothie width straw for your thicker drinks, one thing to consider is how thick you make them. If you use a high powered blender, like a Blendtec, then you can probably get away with a regular width straw. This way, the regular width straw becomes versatile for both thick and thin liquids. If your smoothies always turn out very thick or chunky, then I highly recommend a glass smoothie straw. You could even get our blender smoothie straw and drink right out of the container!

I found a great hidden benefit of my strawesome straws! I drink a lot of carbonated water and tea and unlike with a plastic straw, a glass straw stinks to the bottom and doesn’t float up and out of my glass! It’s the little things that always make me happy!
I love having glass straws for hot liquids like tea. It’s easier on my teeth and mouth. I also like how glass straws feel smooth and have soft edges rather than the nasty sharpness of plastic.
The glass straws come in a longer length with works better with my taller glasses. Regular plastic straws were hard to find with different lengths.
in all… glass is always better then plastic, for the environment and for all living being…
I love the beauty of the glass straw, and the pleasure it brings each time we use one or even just when I open the cupboard door and see my glass straws in their glass, waiting to be plucked out and used.
One benefit is soup is less messy to eat for little ones. Stick a glass straw in a cup of soup and let them drink their soup.
I recently came across your awesome site! I have been looking for an unique straw for my photo shoot. I just love the different designs and what a great idea to have a smoothie width straw!
I look way cool when I pull out my beautiful, artful Stawesome straw. And I love to look cool.
My kids will even drink more water if they have a fun straw to drink from!
The glass straws are more sturdy and heavier than plastic straws which makes sucking up on pieces of fruit bits in your smoothie easier to do. I find that everything just tastes better when using a glass strawesome straw!
I don’t own one of these glass straws at this time but I soooo want one. Glass is better than plastic all around and I like that you can use it over and over. Nothing better than saving our planet by using this kind of product instead of plastic!
Added benefit in public…you look cool and you have a great conversation starter!
I love my glass straws! They look great in a glass of water and I love that they are smooth to drink out of. I also love that I am not using plastic anymore!
I love these sturdy straws. They never ever pop out of your glass and because they don’t bend or collapse are just better all around. Plus you can show your great straw to everyone and let them know how great for the environment they are too.
I was able to get my kids to drink broth using your cute fun straws. Thanks!!
Hi Jill, Congrats! You are the winner from this post1! I will email you for your contact info right now.
Thanks! We love your straws. It will be great to have an extra one for guests 🙂
I used to have a nasty habit of biting my (plastic) straws, but then strawsome straws came into my life and I kicked that horrible habit to the curb. The glass was a friendly reminder of not to bite down after every sip; and eventually, I no longer had an urge to bite down even when having to use a plastic straw!
Thank you strawsome!
I am a strong supporter of glass… I use glass for all food storage, and using a glass straw is a brilliant idea! You can taste the difference… Glass does not affect the taste of what you are drinking. People have been drinking with plastic straws for so long that we’ve forgotten what everything tastes like without it!
We drink WAY more liquid because it’s FUN to drink out of a glass straw (esp. when it’s pretty!). I drink more water on the days I am home with my glass straw 🙂
I went through a period where my teeth were very sensitive, and your straws saved me! Sucking through the straw, I was able to bypass the area where the cold liquid would make my teeth hurt.
I love, love, love the fact then I am preserving my tooth enamel when I use my straw with my lemon water, but I also love the beautiful sound of my Strawesome straw as it lightly clinks against my glass mug. 🙂
I like that when I share with my kids they can’t chew my straw:)
