Friend Friday – Organic Bliss

I don’t get out much but when I do Organic Bliss is one of my all-time favorite stores to visit.  I came across this store while out to dinner in Ann Arbor, MI with my family one night.  We were walking past when (as usual) my husband tells me to go in and see if they’d like to carry our straws.  Now, I have walked into my fair share of stores asking them if they want to carry our straws and most of the time I do not get a pleasant response in return, you can understand why this is my least favorite task.

When I entered Organic Bliss I was greeted by the owner, Melissa, who was so very gracious and kind – how refreshing!  Since that first meeting Melissa has been selling our straws like crazy and we happily promote her wonderful shop. Below is a little interview of Melissa to learn more about her:

1.  How did you get started in the business?

Organic Bliss was born from my deep desire to create a business focused on living a
healthy, balanced, eco friendly lifestyle. I place great importance on being a
conscious consumer and am extremely passionate about sharing that with others.
About fifteen years ago I started making the change from conventional products
to organic and eco-friendly products. I feel that people want to make informed
choices but may not have the time or really be willing to do the research so
that is why I opened Organic Bliss. It is intended to be a place where people
can come to shop and know that everything in the store is a quality natural

 2.  What type of advice would you give other entrepreneurs?

Be present and open to possibilities. Often times we get so caught up in what we
think we should be doing that we don’t realize opportunities that present
themselves. Also, to deeply get in touch with what inspires you. When you’re
passionate and inspired by something it really shines through into your work.
Your clients/customers want know that you really do love and believe in what
you do!

 3.  What type of satisfactions do you get out of your work?

Making my customers happy with their experience and hearing the feedback about how they love a particular
product, or how the gift I helped them pick out was just perfect.

 4.  What motivates you on a day to day basis?

Being able to appreciate this beautiful world we live in. There are so many ways to create health and
happiness in life . Every day is another opportunity to really nurture
yourself, those around you and the planet.

5.    Whatis your guilty pleasure?

Red wine and dark chocolate.  I don’t consider either
“bad” for me, but I must admit there are times when my body could probably use
some herbal tea instead of Pinot Noir and an organic dark chocolate bar!

 6.     What is your favourite  quote?

“All the things that truly matter — beauty, love,
creativity, joy, inner peace — arise from beyond the mind.” -Eckhart Tolle

7.  If you could choose your last meal on earth, what
would it be?

This is hard because I love all kinds of food. I’d have to say sushi (with lots of
wasabi).  It’s not something I prepare for myself and I love eating it. It
makes me happy!

We are sad to say that as of mid- February 2012 Organic Bliss will close it’s doors for good.  We wish you all the best Melissa and thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to your passion, customers, and beautiful little shop!
